Invitation - Celebrating Peace and Acknowledging the City of Mesa
Greetings to all from Dr. Ruth Lim.
Please join us on Wednesday, September 24, at 9:00am at Mesa Community College near the clock tower. Celebrating the 3rd anniversary of the City of Mesa as an International City of Peace!
Rotary International is dedicated to causes that build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world to support our peace efforts and end polio forever.
Last week you learned about peacebuilding and conflict resolution; disease prevention and treatment; and water, sanitation, and hygiene. Rotary’s other areas of focus are:
Maternal and child health: Nearly 6 million children under age five die each year because of malnutrition, poor health care, and inadequate sanitation. Rotary expands access to quality care, so mothers and their children can live and grow stronger.
Basic education and literacy: More than 775 million (not a typo!) people over the age of 15 are illiterate. Rotary’s goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy.
Community economic development: Rotary works with communities to create opportunities for decent and productive work for young and old. Rotary strengthens local entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women.
Environment: Rotary develops projects that conserve and protect natural resources, advance ecological sustainability, and foster harmony between communities and the environment. Rotary empowers communities and spurs innovation to address the causes and effects of climate change and environmental degradation.
At the September 25th lunch meeting/day of our District Governor Visit, Wayne General will bring his backdrop and studio lights! He has volunteered to take individual or group portraits done with the DG or by yourselves for personal use. Portraits will be taken after the meeting. Dress in any attire you wish!
As Rotarians, we are regularly exposed to opportunities to support various causes with our time, talent and treasure. Sometimes it is hard to sift through all the information and decide where we are going to use our available financial resources.
It would be wonderful if every Mesa West Rotarian would make the following BIG FOUR their Rotary charities of choice and support every one of them every year, we could make a bigger difference than we are making today.
