HOW SUCCESSFULL HAS THE EFFORT BEEN TO ERADICATE POLIO?
Because of Rotary's support, nearly 3 billion children have been immunized against polio and are protected for life against this crippling disease.
Rotary and our partners reduced the number of wild polio cases from 350,000 in 1988 to 30 in 2022. Twenty million cases of paralysis have been averted through this global effort.
The wild poliovirus is now endemic in just two countries, and Rotary won't stop until there is a polio-free world!

The annual Guaymas Ayudame a Escuchar mission is rapidly approaching. There are a few ways that you can continue to help support us:
Join us as a runner and/or interpreter. The dates are November 5-9. Wednesday is a travel day, Thursday will have some time to get to know the city of Guaymas, followed by set-up and team-planning meeting. Clinic runs on Friday and Saturday, followed by travel home on Sunday. To be respectful of the Foundation budget, we will be returning to the past practice of charging a $200 fee to attend.
Some of our students attending cannot afford the $200 dollar charge. If you would like to specifically sponsor a student, please let me know.
As always, we bring down candy. There is not a meeting between Halloween and our departure, so if you see sales on candy to bring by the October 30 meeting we would greatly appreciate it. This is a great way to outreach to those around you about the service that Rotary does.
Those of you who have attended in the past may remember how patients line up for some time waiting to be seen. We are making changes to the workflow to improve this, but would also like to look into the possibility of providing sandwiches for those patients. If this is something you would like to support, please also let me know.
The Rotary Rose Parade Float Committee reports that their 2026 UNITE FOR GOOD float is taking shape. They ask that you PLEASE CONSIDER becoming a Float Sponsor or an Ambassador, OR reach out to those you feel might be interested in being a sponsor. For example you can dedicate a rose to honor a loved one.
John Pennypacker noted “It is probably the easiest way to support and do something somewhat meaningful is to become a Rose Parade Float "Rose Sponsor". That way friends and family can watch the parade on TV and say there is a rose on that float for me!”
As Rotarians, we are regularly exposed to opportunities to support various causes with our time, talent and treasure. Sometimes it is hard to sift through all the information and decide where we are going to use our available financial resources.
It would be wonderful if every Mesa West Rotarian would make the following BIG FOUR their Rotary charities of choice and support every one of them every year, we could make a bigger difference than we are making today.
