Help welcome Caio this Saturday!
Our inbound Youth Exchange Student, Carlos "Caio" Luque, will arrive at Sky Harbor on July 28.  His American Airlines flight number 948 is due to arrive at terminal 4 at 3:59 PM.  Mesa West Rotarians are encouraged to join the welcome party at the airport to give Caio a warm Mesa West  Rotary welcome!
TRVFA Student Sponsored by Mesa West
Following the July 19 meeting, Vocational Service Chair, Bob Zarling and Jeanie Morgan, who serves on the board of The Rotary Vocational Fund of Arizona, interviewed Karen Estrada-Gonzales who has applied for a TRVFA grant.  She had already met all the standard qualifications including the financial need requirements.  The final requirement for the grant was to be interviewed by a sponsoring Rotary Club.

Both Bob and Jeanie were impressed with her commitment to the career path she will be embarking on.  She has volunteered in similar environments to where she hopes to work when she completes her Certified Nursing Assistant Program at Arizona Medical Training Institute in Mesa.  It was very clear she had put a lot of thought into preparing for her interview.  She had taken time to explore the Rotary website and was intrigued by all that Rotary does.

Karen indicated that if approved by our club, she very much wants to share her progress with the club and when time allows may be able to volunteer to work on some of our projects.  She indicated she would like to be added as a Messenger subscriber so she can keep up with what we are doing.

Following the interview, Bob Zarling signed the Club Certification, which was returned to TRVFA Grant Processing so the Grant check could be authorized.  The club will not incur a direct expense for the grant.  Following Karen's progress will give TRVFA donors a chance to see their dollars make a difference for Karen, and the patients she will care for.

RYLA Service Project Support Requested
As we prepare for this year’s RYLA program, the committee is excited about the various opportunities that are available for the youth in our communities with the upcoming RYLA Camps.  For the past few years, RYLA Pinerock in Prescott has been actively working with The Manzanita Meal Packing Program and this past April RYLA Ponderosa in Heber completed their first meal packing event – together both RYLA camps packed 75,000 meals this year alone! Meals that have ALL been distributed to hungry families here in Arizona. RYLA 5495 has paid for many of those meals through the Arizona Tax Credit. This year, the RYLA 5495 Committee elected to combine our fundraising efforts.  We are “One RYLA with Two Camps”!  Donations received will be distributed proportionately between the two camps.

With RYLA just around the corner, I would like to ask you to consider giving your Arizona Tax Credit to this great program. It is as easy as 1, 2, 3..............

1. Click today on the link below to make your Arizona Tax Credit with your debit or credit card in the amount of $800 (joint tax filers) and $400 (single tax filers);
2. Print your receipt;
3. Take a nap as your RYLA committee we will do the rest.

Why RYLA: It is a great opportunity for our young RYLArians to experience a life-changing event. The great advantage for you and I is we get our donation back through our Arizona taxes, plus a federal deduction. Most importantly - the hungry get fed.

Special Note: You might not be able to give, but, please don't do nothing. Talk with your Rotary Club, friends, family and others about giving today.

Who will join me?

Thank you,
Dennis Van

THE FOUR WAY TEST of the things we think, say or do

first  Is it the TRUTH?
second  Is it FAIR to all concerned?
third  Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
fourth Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
