Warren Williamson kicked off the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, and Liz Paulus gave an Invocation
The raffle this week had a small pot of $30 and a large pot of $60. The winning ticket belonged to Frank Rosenberg, though he did not draw the Ace of Clubs; therefore, he did not win the large pot.
Upcoming events, including the following, were announced:
- Sept 13 – Love Your City/National Day of Service
- Sept 20 – Mesa West Experience
- Sept 25 – join us for Jim Schmidt’s official visit
- Dec 7 – The District is hosting a Cardinals football game tailgate event.
- Diego Felix-Davis’s Rotary club in Mexico is sending a “Friendship Box” to our club and he invited our club to consider sending one back.
- Sept 12 – House of Refuge is having a Casino night fundraiser

- Harry Grossman contributed a fine for wearing his Greete badge home last week
- Dick Myren was happy to donate his usual amount for himself and Rod
- Ed Koeneman mentioned that he saw an article in the Mesa Triune about Liz Paulus
- Melody Jackson was happy to announce that her youngest daughter got married, and she took her 95-year-old mother on an Alaskan cruise
- Lizzy Barron was happy that she took a mother-daughter trip for her and her daughter’s 18th birthday, and that she will do a 14-mile walk in Portugal
- Frank Rosenberg was happy that he won today’s raffle
- Gaby Cutlip was happy that her daughter started school
- Liz Paulus was happy to explain that the new article was College Bound
- Jay Paulus was happy that he took his 15-year-old granddaughter to his family reunion
- John Pennypacker was happy that his flat tire got fixed, and he was able to replace his water-damaged carpet
- Warren Williamson was happy to tell his usual funny story!
After Happy Bucks, there were a couple more announcements, including how to sign up to give automatically/monthly through your “My Rotary” account, and that the College Bound Gala is coming up.
This week’s speaker was Sara Anderson, who volunteers for Justserve.org. Justserve.org is a website/app where nonprofit organizations can post volunteer opportunities, and anybody can search the postings to find ways to serve. Sara mentioned that John Hewko, CEO of Rotary International, is on Justserve.org’s advisory board. Justserve.org believes that community service can build unity. She also showed some statistics regarding the health benefits of volunteering.

To close out the meeting, Melody auctioned items from her Alaska trip, which Frank Rosenberg won for $35.
