Mesa West's Big Moment

There are still a significant number of days left in this Rotary Year, but as of the District Conference, it was looking highly likely that the travelling Polio Plus Champions trophy would be coming back to Mesa West Rotary.  At the time of the conference, we were out front in Total giving and average donations per member.

The theme for the hospitality suites at the District Conference was Family Reunion.  The Mesa West family was the Dutton Family from the Yellowstone series.  Visitors to the suite were treated to a fun setting and enjoyed some amazing ribs prepared by Chuck Flint.  Pam with a lot of help from her Rotary friends put together some appropriate decorations.  Cowboy Bob photo bombed lots of photos taken by visitors to the suite during the evening.  In case you didn't recognize him, the cowboy with Carla and Pam and seated at the table in the center bottom photo is Kevin Fleege - Carla's right-hand man!

Paul Harris Fellow Recognition Presented by Fred Flintstone AKA DG Larry Horton

Not many can say they received their recognition pins from Fred Flintstone, Donna Goetzenberger received her Paul Harris Fellow plus two recognition pin from DG Larry Horton who vacated the Flintstone Family Reunion long enough to make these presentations.  He also gave Wayne General his Paul Harris Plus Four and Plus Five recognition pins.

A Variety of District Conference Images

  • As attendees entered the elevators at the venue, they were greeted by the image of a playful cowgirl.
  • Saturday morning, participants were divided into teams who first packaged solar racing car kits to be given to schools in the Kingman area to promote STEM studies.  They then constructed solar race cars and cars constructed from recycled materials for some friendly racing competition.
  • DG Larry's wife Jenn and daughter Emery were present for most, if not all, the activities.
  • Someone captured an image of two old PDG cowboys - Ben Eubank and John Pennypacker
  • John made sure polio-survivor Ramesh Ferris saw the way John promotes Rotary's End Polio Now campaign.
  • Kassandra - Westwood High School Interact Club President will be an Ambassador on the Crutches 4 Africa mission this summer and be the Interact District Governor for 2023-24.
  • Colton Cagle, received recognition for having the top Community-Based Rotaract Club in the district.  Colton started out in Westwood HS Interact, served as their President, attended RYLA, was a C4Africa Ambassador, Served as Interact District Governor, and went on a Rotary Youth Exchange the year COVID rocked our world.  Mesa West Rotary's support of youth programs has made amazing things possible for this young man.
